Winter Weather Reminder: Roadway & Fire Hydrant Safety

As a reminder, residents and contractors are not permitted to deposit excess snow or debris onto any public roadway or area of travel. Multiple roadways have become partially or fully impassable due to snow and debris being pushed from private driveways into the street. We understand that many driveways are cleared by private contractors or plowing services, and residents may not always be aware when snow is displaced into the roadway. However, roadways must remain clear at all times, and using public streets to dump excess snow is not permitted. The Boonton Township Police Department has issued several warnings regarding this issue and is now asking for the public’s cooperation to help keep our roadways safe and passable. With several weeks of winter weather still expected, we ask all residents to remain mindful of this concern. Additionally, we ask for the community’s assistance in keeping fire hydrants clear and accessible. Residents with hydrants on or near their property can help protect their neighbors and community by ensuring first responders have unobstructed access in the event of an emergency.
Thank you for your cooperation towards keeping Boonton Township safe this winter.

Beware Spoof Calls Impersonating Police
It has come to our attention that someone is spoofing the Boonton Township Police Department’s phone number in an attempt to potentially defraud residents. Caller ID/Phone Spoofing is an act where scammers falsify caller ID data, frequently using "neighbor spoofing" to mimic local, familiar numbers in order to gain trust. Be aware that if the police department ever does reach out to you by phone, an officer will identify themselves, give you a reason for the call and NEVER request money or payment of any kind. If you receive a call and have any doubts, do not engage, hang up and call the police department directly at (973)402-4000.
