Rockaway Valley Road Closure Scheduled to Begin 9/24/2026

Beginning on or about Thursday September 24th, 2026, emergency utility work will commence on Rockaway Valley Road between Powerville Road (Four Corners) and Kingsland Road. To facilitate this work safely, the portion of the roadway between Powerville Road and Kingsland Road will be closed to all through-traffic during active work hours. This project is expected to start on or about September 24th, 2026 and conclude approximately around November 19th, 2026.
The utility work and road closure is scheduled to occur Monday through Thursday each week, beginning at 7:30am and concluding at 5:30 pm each day. During these times, a detour will be in place, and officers along with utility crews will be on site to assist motorists as needed. When the utility crews are not actively working, the roadway will be completely open. Please refer to the detour map for a detailed description of the closure location and specific detour route.
Again, this project is anticipated to last until approximately November 19th, 2026. We greatly appreciate everyone's anticipated cooperation as we work to improve our roadways.

Hollywood comes to Boonton Township
The Township enjoyed hosting CBS Studios/Paramount this week for filming an episode of a new television series that will premier on CBS.
The cast and crew were gracious guests and we look forward to welcoming them back in the future.
Wrap-up onsite will continue through October 5th.
A big thanks to our police officers and staff who kept the Municipal Building and Police Headquarters open to the public during the filming and assisted public on-site.
We wanted to share some photos of the action from the week

Please note that The State Department of Health has placed into law the requirements that a dog licensing age must have a rabies shot that does not expire in the year of the licensing period.
This is not a Township Ordinance—this is a State Law.
If you already had your dog(s) vaccinated, please drop off or send us a photocopy of the current rabies vaccination so we can update your dog’s file. This can be sent to dvandergoot@boontontownship.com or skubik@boontontownship.com. Or, if you no longer own your dog, please advise as well.

Lake Tumble – In Dam Assessment

The Township has been made aware of the conditions at Lake Tumble-In and will be conducting some preliminary work to assess the conditions of the dam.
The work will be exploratory in nature to pinpoint the issue causing the lower water levels, including the removal of the trees on the dam. Once that is determined, our Engineers will be in a position to make their recommendations as to the repairs.
We anticipate beginning the work within the coming weeks, so when you see our crews on the dam, you’ll know what’s happening.

Doolittle's Landing
Playground Re-build
The Township Committee announced in April 2025 that the Doolittle's Landing Playground will be the refurbished in 2026.
On July 13, 2026 the Township Committee awarded the contract for the playground with an approximate installation date in early October.
We're looking forward to our new playground!!

updated rendering of proposed new playground

existing playground constructed in 2001
There have been recent social media postings alleging the new playground is non-ADA compliant which is blatantly false.
The existing playground as well as the new playground is ADA compliant, and our vendor has verified that fact. Moreover, the new playground will include additional ADA compliant equipment than the existing playground.
