Reminder

JCP&L power line tree trimming project

NG Gilbert is working throughout Township rights-of-way to clear power lines of branches and offending trees.

Property owners have signed statements with NG Gilbert accepting responsibility for removal of cut trees left in the right-of-way and their adjoining properties.

The Township will be sending notices to property owners reminding of the need to remove the fallen trees from the right-of-way and adjoining properties as soon as possible.

Please be sure to remove all cut trees from the front of your property - leaving a sign stating "Free Firewood" will certainly aid in the quick removal of the cut wood.

A Message From the Boonton Township Police Department

DARE is Back at RVS

The Boonton Township Police Department is excited to announce that the D.A.R.E. program is once again back at Rockaway Valley School. This year in particular is very special as we prepare to celebrate the program's 30 year anniversary. D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. DARE is a national drug prevention program which was created in Los Angeles in the 1980’s, and eventually found its way over to Boonton Township in 1991. In 1991, Police Chief Anthony Mini and Township Mayor Douglas Cabana selected Patrolman Thomas Cacciabeve to be Boonton Township’s first DARE officer.

Fast-forward nearly 30 years later and the Boonton Township DARE program is now under the direction of Ptlm. Cacciabeve’s son, Sergeant Thomas Cacciabeve. Sergeant Cacciabeve was certified as a DARE instructor in September of 2011, and he ultimately filled his father’s position as one of the department’s DARE instructors upon his father’s retirement in 2012. Sergeant Cacciabeve currently teaches the 5th grade DARE program at Rockaway Valley School along with fellow veteran DARE instructor Ptlm. Kevin Marheka who teaches the 7th grade program at Rockaway Valley School.

After a brief pause due to the Covid pandemic, the Police Department is very excited to be once again welcomed into Rockaway Valley School. The fact that the DARE program has been thriving in Boonton Township for nearly 30 years is a true testament to the strength and success of this program. Whereas other municipalities have been forced to make cuts to the DARE program, the DARE program in Boonton Township is alive and well, and we can assure our residents that this program is here to stay!
