The Boonton Township School District has additional ways to learn about the March 12 bond referendum to modernize systems and spaces as the community prepares to vote.

The bond referendum website, www.btrvs.org/referendum, now has more than 30 FAQs, including the community’s most-asked questions right on the home page.

A series of videos on the site features district staff discussing the benefits of specific projects. Voters also can find information on the funding strategy and voting process.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 155 Powerville Road. Mail-in ballots must be submitted by March 12 at the drop box at the Municipal Building or through the mail.

If voters approve the referendum, the district will receive $4.7 million in state aid that is not otherwise available toward $15 million in estimated project costs. At this point in the process, the project budget is not based on actual quotes. The district’s consultants will draw up design specifications if the referendum passes, and projects will be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder.

Taxpayers across New Jersey contribute to the revenue that funds school construction projects, but the money only benefits districts with approved referenda.

After state aid is applied, the estimated monthly tax impact is $39 for the owner of the average assessed home in Boonton Township.

Residents who don’t find answers to their questions on the website are welcome to email referendum@btrvs.org

The monthly RVGC Program will be held on March 12, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12 noon at the Rockaway Valley United Methodist Church located at 42 Valley Road, Boonton Township, New Jersey 07005.

The program will be presented by Mary Jo Sichak, a teacher/naturalist at the Weis Ecology Center and is also a Master Gardener.
