Each week we will include a fun fact or historic tidbit about our great hometown
The May 9, 1952 edition of the Township Newsletter, Valley News was devoted to the overcrowding at the Powerville School and detailed the plans for the school addition. The 1870 and the 1926 schoolhouses on the site were overcrowded requiring the Township to construct a three classroom addition. The referendum took place on May 20, 1952 which passed as the addition was constructed at a cost of $88,000.
The former Powerville School now serves as our Municipal Building. The entire edition is on file in the Clerk's Office if you interested in reading the full text.

Road Work!
Beginning on May 27th, 2025, crews are scheduled to begin natural gas installation on River Road near Rockaway Valley Road. This utility work has the potential to cause intermittent traffic delays for drivers who are traveling eastbound or westbound on Rockaway Valley Road.
The utility crew will then continue the installation on River Road and proceed throughout the Oak Hills neighborhood. This work has the potential to last several weeks and may cause traffic delays or detours within the Oak Hills neighborhood. Residents of River Road, Sunrise Road, Forrest Road, Berton Road, Overlook Road and Rosewood Lane should plan for extra travel time until the completion of this project.

Doolittle’s Landing Playground @ RVA Fields
In 2001, a group of community volunteers formed a committee to create a new playground at RVA Fields highlighting the Township's roots and the site's connection to aviation history.
The volunteers planned, held fundraisers, sold pavers and constructed the playground in the Spring of 2002.
After more than 20 years as a place enjoyed by thousands of children in our community, the Township Committee announced it will be upgrading Doolittle’s Landing in 2026.
Our playground vendor is working on some preliminary concepts before we host a meeting seeking community input which is planned for the Spring.
Stay tuned for this exciting project!!
