Beginning on Monday September 29th, 2025, Boonton Avenue will be closed between Wooten Street in the Town of Boonton and Taylortown Road in Montville Township. The road closure is in regards to a road resurfacing project. All thru-traffic will be routed through a brief detour. Please see the below images for Northbound and Southbound detours. This road closure is anticipated to last approximately three days, but there is the potential to go longer.
Township residents who live on Sheep Hill Road, Wiltshire Drive, Bristol Ridge, Knollwood Drive, and Crestfield Road will have access to and from their neighborhoods but should expect significant traffic delays. We ask patience of anyone needing access to any of these roadways as there will be notable delays and speeds throughout the work zone will be drastically decreased. Arrangements have been made to ensure that school bus pickups and drop-offs are NOT affected.
Below are images and maps of the northbound and southbound detour routes. These images are easier to read on a desktop computer. We greatly appreciate everyone's anticipated cooperation.

Road Work!

Farber Hill Road Closed for Utility Work
Beginning on Wednesday 7/23/2025, Farber Hill Road will be closed to all thru-traffic between the hours 7:30am and 5:30pm. This closure is in response to a utility project which requires roadway opening. The project is expected to last between four to five weeks, and crews will have the roadway closed daily, with the exceptions of Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Residents of Miller Drive, Decker Lane, and Wetmore Drive are encouraged to enter and exit their neighborhoods via Wetmore Drive and Rockaway Valley Road to avoid delays. Residents of Twin Hills Drive and Eagle Rock Drive will have access to their respective neighborhoods, but should expect traffic delays.
Oak Hills Utility Work
All thru-traffic will be directed through a brief detour which consists of Rockaway Valley Road to Split Rock Road. BTPD will have officers on scene each day to assist motorists as needed. We would like to thank everyone in advance for their cooperation as we work to improve our roadways and utilities.
Beginning on May 27th, 2025, crews are scheduled to begin natural gas installation on River Road near Rockaway Valley Road. This utility work has the potential to cause intermittent traffic delays for drivers who are traveling eastbound or westbound on Rockaway Valley Road.
The utility crew will then continue the installation on River Road and proceed throughout the Oak Hills neighborhood. This work has the potential to last several weeks and may cause traffic delays or detours within the Oak Hills neighborhood. Residents of River Road, Sunrise Road, Forrest Road, Berton Road, Overlook Road and Rosewood Lane should plan for extra travel time until the completion of this project.
BTPD will have officers on scene each day assisting motorists with any traffic-related issues.

The end of summer break and beginning of a new school year is less than a week away! In the coming weeks you will see increased patrols from our officers with a focus on aggressive and dangerous driving. Please, slow down and keep these things in mind as traffic starts to pick up on local roadways:
🚘 Speed limits on most major roadways in the Township are 35 mph with the exceptions of Boonton Avenue, which is 40 mph. Split Rock Road and Farber Hill are 30 mph.
📵 New Jersey is a hands free state. If you are seen with a phone in your hand while your vehicle is in motion you can get a ticket. These tickets are court mandatory and can result in a loss of license.
⚠️ Boonton Township has solid yellow road lines throughout town. There is no passing over a solid yellow line. Motorists also are reminded that they cannot pass a stopped school bus when it has red lights flashing and a stopped sign displayed. Doing so can result in fines of $100 - $250, 5 points and possible license suspension.
🚙 🚗 Following too closely is dangerous and a primary cause of motor vehicle crashes in New Jersey. A safe rule to follow is to maintain one car length of distance for every 10 miles an hour you are traveling. Tailgating can result in a 5 point ticket.
🪪 GDL license holders must display their orange plate stickers at all times and are limited to one passenger in their vehicle. Operating hours are limited to between 5am and 11pm.
🚲 E-bikes are limited to 20mph and require a helmet for anyone under the age of 17. They do not require a license to operate. E-bikes which can achieve speeds between 21-28 mph (or have power greater than 750 watts) are considered motorized bicycles. These are required to be used by licensed operators and must be registered and insured.
