Senior Property Tax Freeze

The Senior Freeze Program reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled persons for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence. To qualify, you must meet all the eligibility requirements for each year from the base year through the application year. Note: Any changes to the eligibility requirements (i.e., Income Limits) and benefit amounts for the current year will not be finalized until the completion of the State Budget that must be adopted by July 1 of the following year.

How to Apply

The Senior Freeze application deadline is November 2. Please go to the following link to print the required forms directly from the NJ.gov website:

 https://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/ptr/printform.shtml.

  • PTR-1 - If you met the eligibility requirements for both 2018 & 2019 and are filing for the first time (or reapplying to the program after being denied in a prior year), file Form PTR-1 and the appropriate verification form (PTR-1A / PTR-1B).
  • PTR-2 - If you filed an application for 2017 and met all the eligibility requirements, file Form PTR-2 and the appropriate verification form (PTR-2A / PTR-2B). Form PTR-2 is a personalized application that is not available online. If you qualify and have not received this application, call 1-800-882-6597. The verification form is your proof of property taxes due and paid. Alternate documents to send as proof can be found in the Senior Freeze FAQ.
